What is volumetric weight?
Volumetric weight is mainly applied in the logistics and freight transportation industry. When an item has a large volume but is relatively light in weight, the transportation cost is calculated based on its volumetric weight instead of its actual weight. For most air cargo shipments, the volumetric weight is calculated using the following formula:
Volumetric Weight (in kilograms) = (Length (cm) × Width (cm) × Height (cm)) / 6000

Therefore, even though the individual purchase of items may seem inexpensive, considering the shipping costs, the overall cost can become expensive.
